To avoid the crowds of Engelberg, head out of town on the AA Gorge Trail, which starts at the Engelberg Train Station. The beginning of this route will take you past Lake Eugeni on your right. Once you arrive at the stone bridge, the beauty of this hike will start to reveal itself.
The ideal setting for a summer hike, nestled under tree canopy with a beautiful stream running throughout, this hike is certain to impress. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy at the lovely rest stop roughly half-way through the hike with: benches, chairs, a mighty swing and a grill pit. For those not wishing to put in tremendous effort, the route from the Engelberg Train Station to the Grafenort Train Station is a gradual downhill, making it an easy going outting for most fitness levels.
This hike will take you over streams, with impressive waterfalls in the distance, you will cross multiple stone, metal and hanging bridges throughout. Quiet and immersed in nature; this is the perfect route for those looking for a true nature experience void of the typical Engelberg crowds.

This route is peaceful and tranquil throughout. It was a true hidden treasure in the Engelberg area.
Ideal in the summer months, as the trail is shaded and along water almost the entire duration of the hike.
There is a lovely spot for picnicking and grilling about half-way through the hike.
The multiple bridges along the hike add a lovely dimension to this route.
It is an easy route to follow. Simply follow the yellow trail markers to "Grafenort." If you wish to hike a more challenging route, follow the trail markers with white-red-white labeled also "Grafenort."
Be Aware:
There are no toilets along the route.
Pack plenty of water and snacks for the hike.
The train from Grafenort to either Engelberg or Stans runs just once per hour. Plan accordingly.
Once at the Grafenort Train Station, press the button at the stop to ensure the train stops for you. It is a "stop on request" only station.
Always pay close attention to children whenever bodies of water are present.
We classified this hike as an "easy" route if you are hiking in the direction from Engelberg to Grafenort. The other direction (Grafenort to Engelberg) would be considered "moderate" or even "challenging" due to the elevation gain.
Be aware of bikers on this route and please share the trail!
