The Swiss hut system is one of the most amazing aspects about this tiny country. The Swiss Alpine Club has an impressive 153 huts throughout Switzerland, with doesn't even take into consideration the mountain houses, and mountain inns.
If you are planning a visit during the summer months, please put a hut on your list. Varying from fully staffed mountain inns, to self-catering huts, some accommodations offer private rooms, while others offer bunk bed rooms. Reserve huts early in the spring to secure your spot for summer hiking. Ask any Swiss person, huts are part of an authentic "Swiss" experience and not to be missed.

In fact, we love the experience of hiking to huts so much we wrote, Fresh Air Kids Switzerland - Hikes to Huts, which features 36 gorgeous huts, all of which we have personally stayed in. Our book provides overnight excursions to huts and multi-day tours telling our readers everything you need to know about packing, tips and tricks, safety, and family - friendly locations.

If you are looking for a few huts that don't appear in our book and are for more experienced hikers, we've rounded up some for your hiking pleasure below.

Tucked away in a remote valley in Ticino, is the architecturally noteworthy Capanna Corno-Gries. This hut, often cordially referred to as the "Alpine Spaceship," sits with a commanding view above the Bedretto valley, below the Nufenenpass. The friendly staff is welcoming and happy to serve you drinks upon arrival while you take a break or play a game.
