Straddling the cantons of Neuchâtel and Vaud, sits the impressive Creux du Van. This remarkable natural setting sits at 160 meters high. The beautiful natural wonder, is rich with nature, including wild animals, ibex, Chamois, and lynx can often be seen by visitors.

Prepare yourself for a full day of nature immersion when hiking the Creux du Van. There are two routes to the top of this circular hike, however, the route we outline, provides a steady uphill climb and a gradual descent. Plan to pack a picnic lunch and make the most of this spectacular hike. Though beautiful year-round, the autumn months are particularly spectacular.

Special Features:
The hike is beautiful throughout. Hikers will enjoy dense forests and stunning views.
The route has a steady ascent, prepare accordingly. Hiking polls are very useful on the uphill and downhill portions of the hike.
This hike will have less visitors during the weekday.
Be Aware:
This route is not recommended for those with vertigo.
Check the weather forecast before starting your journey. This route is best and safest in good weather!
Confirm all trails are open and accessible.
Wear hiking boots with good tread. There are parts of the uphill and downhill that are slippery when wet!
Bring plenty of water and food.
Pack layers for potential wind and cooler temperatures once you reach the top.
There are no specific toilet facilities along the route, though there is one near the train station (1 chf required), there are a couple of mountain restaurants with facilities for patrons.
If hiking with children of any age (seasoned families), use extreme caution at the top of the route. There are sharp drop-offs and some areas are not roped off!
It is best to arrive to the route via public transportation, however, if you elect to drive, there is a parking lot in Noiraigue. It is approx. 10 chf for the day, or 11.50 chf with a Parking App.
