Life is about the little pleasures that sprinkle joy throughout our lives. One of the best ways to experience true bliss is through witnessing an absolutely magical sunrise or sunset.
Over the years, we have been privy to some pretty remarkable beginning and endings to our days. We have compiled a list for you to take-in the magic.
Tip:
Due to the time of year, winter makes it much easier to take in the sunrise, but there is something invigorating about rising in the early summer hours only to hike up to the perfect outlook. Breathe it all in as the darkness gives way to light. Some locations will even run ski or chairlifts very early (06:30) to allow skiers the opportunity to observe the sunrise before hitting the pistes. We cannot think of a better way to start the day!
The Rhine River - Basel
Sitting along the banks of the Rhine as the sunsets is a marvelous experience. If you happen to be visiting Basel or any area that sits along the Rhine, make your way outdoors during this special time. If you are located in Basel, our top suggestion is the St. Alban area.

Gornergrat - Zermatt
Is there anything more magnificent than watching the sunset with the Matterhorn in the backdrop? We don‘t think so. Plan to stay the night at the 3100 Kulmhotel and pray for clear skies. As the day starts to come to a close, make your way outside and be prepared to be amazed. Do the same upon rising, as the sunrise will not disappoint.
Special Note: Not all sunsets are this spectacular. The image below was by far one of the most incredible sunsets we had ever witnessed the night we stayed at 3100 Kulmhotel.

Stoos
The tiny, car-free village of Stoos, is quaint and removed from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Plan for a walk after dinner and enjoy the peace that lulls this region to sleep. A lovely walk along the Moorland is recommended.

Tip:
Look toward the small church (Maria Hilf Chapel), which is illuminated by the descending sun. This makes for a lovely picture. If you happen to be staying at Fronalpstock, you will observe Vierwaldstättersee in remarkable light. This is an ideal location to watch the day give way to night and the morning's sun sparkle over the lake region.
If you are looking for a very special experience, why not enjoy a sunset cruise on Lake Lucerne? This 2:30 hour cruise is not only scenic, it's also quite romantic. Details can be found here.

Finally, one of our favorite aspects of staying in a Swiss hut is having access to gorgeous views day or night. What an epic experience!
